Non è certo una novità; già da un bel po’ di tempo, i JRPG non vestono più il ruolo di rilievo che avevano negli anni Novanta. Partendo da questo presupposto, possiamo notare che sempre meno sono i giochi di ruolo che rispettano le tradizioni di un genere che pian piano sta perdendo mordente sul pubblico. Analizziamo, ad esempio, la saga regina: Final Fantasy. Per andare incontro alle esigenze del mercato, Square Enix ha praticamente rivoluzionato qualsiasi concetto del franchise in Final Fantasy XV.
